Collaborating in energy data exchange

Welcome to Data 4 Action

Energy data access can be challenging for many actors because of data ownership, commercial sensitivity, the lack of accuracy or resource. Data 4 Action, by identifying transferable models of collaboration, explores ways to improve the access of public authorities to energy data for a better implementation and a better monitoring of Sustainable Energy Action Plans.

The general purpose of Data 4 Action is the establishment of long-term data exchange models in sustainable energy planning, through a cooperation between public authorities and energy data providers. Long term collaboration models will be implemented through bilateral data exchange cooperation agreements and with the development of twelve regional observatories, representing more than five thousand municipalities.

Data 4 Action puts an emphasis on 4 activities: it improves conditions for data exchange, it mobilizes key actors and facilitates their cooperation through the creation of new observatories and it involves local authorities in the implementation and the monitoring of their Sustainable Energy Action Plans.

Outcomes of the Data 4 Action Conference

Conference DATA4ACTION: the Observatories for Energy and GHG, a strong support to the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy
Regional and local public authorities design, implement and monitor Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs). The Covenant of Mayors initiative provides support at each stage of this process. However, the success of these tasks as well as the improvement of the SECAPs can be guaranteed only through the availability of energy and GHG data. Ensuring the regular exchange of data between the stakeholders of the energy transition is the challenge at hand. The Conference will propose:

Interview with Francisco Olarreaga, Head of Iberdrola’s Institutional Delegation for the Basque Country
What lessons can you draw from your partnership with Udalsarea’s Basque Observatory for Local Sustainability?
Energy consumption is a key indicator of socio-economic development and the success of sustainability and climate change policies. Public authorities need an overview of the socio-economic system in which they are operating and trends within that system.

Data4Action story Data Access Guidebook for Sustainable Energy Action Plans has been released!

Energy data is crucial for identifying trends in the economic priority sectors to target energy policies and to ensure energy efficiency improvements and increased renewable energy deployment. These measures can then be built in to sustainable energy policies and plans, and their national and local implementation progress can be monitored periodically.
